Musical Theatre, Undergraduate Certificate

Program Overview

Musical Theatre is an interdisciplinary program between the Departments of Dance, Music, and Theatre. The term “musical theatre” is defined in a way that embraces the richness and diversity of this challenging interdisciplinary art form, which includes musical comedy, the musical play, new and alternative musical theatre, “Broadway opera,” cabaret, and revue. Students receive technique training in acting complemented by training in vocal technique, musicianship, dance, and the study of the repertoire of musical theatre in print and recordings, as well as in rehearsal and performance. The certificate is open to students of any major.

Student Opportunities

The Musical Theatre Certificate Program, along with the Departments of Theatre, Dance, and Music, supports a wide range of opportunities for our students. Swipe through to see how!

  • NYC Broadway Field Study

During Fall Break, faculty member Tod Kubo led an intensive Broadway field study program in New York City. The students took dance classes, met and interviewed industry professionals, toured facilities, and saw three shows in a field study in New York City. “What’s the most significant way to give back? Creating a clear and attainable pathway for students to New York City,” Kubo said, “building confidence and giving them contacts.”

  • Training & Auditions

The All-in-One Conference is an opportunity for students to take workshops, network with peers and industry professionals, and access an abundance of opportunities and resources all in one weekend. Participants also audition for the Artistic Directors and Casting Directors of the country’s leading regional theaters and entertainment companies.

“The professors make a huge impact on all of the students, but I find the biggest impact comes from my peers. I find myself learning from watching other people’s craft as well as collaborating with them.”
