Women’s and Gender Studies, Minor

Program Overview

The Women’s and Gender Studies minor in the Interdisciplinary Studies program prepares students to understand how gender and sexuality shape their lives, the lives of others, the production of knowledge, and social institutions. Undergraduate coursework also emphasizes the link between theory and practice and encourages applied learning through internships, community involvement, and service learning. The goal of the Minor in Women’s and Gender Studies is to develop students’ understanding of the ways gender has shaped lived experience in the past, present, and around the world.  As such, it complements a wide variety of majors. Courses in women’s and gender studies help students develop skills needed in business, healthcare, education, government, and the nonprofit sector. The curriculum is designed to develop an awareness of the dynamics and impact of gender that will influence students’ academic, professional, and personal development that will lead students to ask the kinds of critical questions that are essential to addressing some of the most pressing questions facing society.
