Language, Literature and Culture

The Language, Literature and Culture (LLC) concentration provides advanced study in Spanish language, linguistics, literature, and culture. This concentration is ideal for educators, language professionals, and students preparing for doctoral study.

You’ll be prepared to:

Translation and Interpreting Studies

The Translation and Interpreting Studies (TIS) concentration prepares students for careers in professional translation, interpreting, and intercultural communication across a variety of industries.

You’ll be prepared to:

• Develop advanced translation and interpreting skills
• Work in business, legal, and international settings
• Strengthen your intercultural communication expertise

To be considered for admission, applicants must submit the following:

• Complete the Graduate School Admissions Application.
• Hold a bachelor’s degree in Spanish or a closely related field, or demonstrate advanced Spanish language proficiency through academic, professional, or other relevant experience.
• Submit official transcripts with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
• Provide three letters of recommendation.
• Submit a Statement of Purpose outlining your academic interests, research goals, and motivation for pursuing the M.A. in Spanish.
• Complete an oral interview with the Graduate Program Director.
• Submit a writing sample in Spanish (approximately 1,000 words).
• International applicants must submit official English proficiency test scores (TOEFL or Duolingo English Test), if required.

Note: Students may apply as Early Entry, graduate, or post-baccalaureate students.

  • There are a variety of summer sessions beginning and ending on different dates. June 15th is the last day an application can be submitted for summer, but this date is for classes that begin in July.
