Program Overview

The goal of the UNC Charlotte Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy Program is to provide graduates entry into respiratory care professional practice degree programs with additional knowledge, skills, and attributes in leadership, management, education, research, and/or advanced clinical practice that will enable them to meet their current professional goals and prepare them for practice as advanced degree respiratory therapists. The B.S.R.T. degree enhances professional careers in respiratory therapy with additional education in administration, evidence-based research, and advanced critical care. The focus of the program is to increase the depth and breadth of knowledge of the associate degree respiratory therapy education, improve written and oral communication skills, and develop the ability to access and evaluate clinical evidence-centered care.

The Respiratory Therapy, B.S.R.T program offers flexible and accelerated course options in spring, summer, or fall. Our faculty continuously achieves state and national recognition as experts in their field in teaching, professional service, and research, and will provide you with the personal attention, advising, and mentoring to help you achieve your professional goals.

The Respiratory Therapy major prepares graduates of associate-level programs in respiratory therapy who have achieved the RRT credential with the expanded knowledge, critical thinking ability, and communication skills necessary to become leaders in respiratory education, management, research, and advanced clinical practice.

Respiratory Therapy, B.S.R.T at a Glance

The emphasis of the curriculum is to enhance and advance the student’s professional career in respiratory therapy with additional education in professional writing, teaching strategies, health care administration, evidence-based research, critical appraisal skills, and advanced critical care management. This degree program is offered completely online through UNC Charlotte Online and the Department of Applied Physiology, Health, and Clinical Sciences. Students seeking admission into this program will already be licensed respiratory therapists who have the RRT credential from the National Board of Respiratory Care.
