Admissions & Requirements
Admission requirements for acceptance include the following:
Complete and submit an application via the Graduate Schools admission System.
Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy, related science, or social science from a regionally accredited college or university.
GPA 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale). If an applicant has earned or attempted a post-baccalaureate degree (i.e. a master’s, doctoral or other), grades in that program will also be taken into consideration.
Registered Respiratory Therapist (achieving and maintaining the RRT Credential offered by the National Board of Respiratory Care).
Current state license to practice Respiratory Therapy.
Professional experience consisting of at least 2 years of clinical Respiratory Therapy practice.
Current Resume.
Written statement of purpose (500-1000 words) describing the applicant’s educational goals and expectations of the program.
Two letters of recommendation from individuals with academic or professional knowledge of the applicant’s capabilities are required.
A Master’s degree can significantly enhance your career prospects. Graduates of UNC Charlotte’s MSRC program are employed as Directors of Respiratory Therapy and Respiratory Therapy Supervisors.
The MSRC degree advancement program (CoARC #520001) offering a Master of Science in Respiratory Care at UNC Charlotte, Charlotte, NC is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care.
CoARC accredits respiratory therapy education programs in the United States. To achieve this end, it utilizes an ‘outcomes based’ process. Programmatic outcomes are performance indicators that reflect the extent to which the educational goals of the program are achieved and by which program effectiveness is documented.
Exceptional undergraduate students in UNC Charlotte’s Respiratory Care program may apply to the Early Entry Program to begin work toward a Master’s in Respiratory Care graduate degree before completion of the bachelor’s degree.
