Public Health, MPH, and Anthropology, M.A., Dual Degree

Program Overview

The dual degree program in Applied (Medical) Anthropology and Public Health provides students the opportunity to bridge two complementary disciplines in an effort to understand and address public health issues from a holistic perspective. This program emphasizes the cultural and social dimensions of health and disease in an effort to effectively improve health outcomes. Students are equipped to tackle health-related social justice issues including health disparities in local communities and abroad.

Public Health and Anthropology Dual Degree at a Glance

To fulfill the requirements for the dual degree (MPH and MA, Medical Anthropology), students take a total of 63 credits for both specializations. This innovative curriculum allows students to complete both an Anthropology MA and a Public Health MPH in three years qualifying them to address health and disease issues in a variety of diverse contexts. Potential graduate students must apply to both programs independently and indicate in their personal statement they are applying for the dual degree program.

MPH Application Deadlines: January 15 (Fall Priority), April 15 (Fall Final), October 1 (Spring Priority), November 1 (Spring Final)

Anthropology Application Deadlines: October 1 (Spring Priority), December 1 (Spring Final), January 15 (Fall Priority), July 15 (Fall Final)

Already a 49er? Early Entry Option Available

Exceptional undergraduate students in UNC Charlotte’s Public Health program and Anthropology program may apply to the Early Entry Program to begin work toward a Master’s in Public Health and Anthropology dual graduate degree before completion of the bachelor’s degree.
