Program Overview

At UNC Charlotte, studies go beyond the Department of Music and into Charlotte’s creative community. With bold ideas and broad connections, our talented faculty, students, and alumni are shaping the civic imagination of this fast-growing city. The Bachelor of Music (B.M.) offers students seven concentrated areas of study. The Bachelor of Music with concentration in Elective Study in an Outside Field is designed for students who want to combine intensive training in music with the focused exploration of another discipline.

Elective Study in an Outside Field at a Glance

Admission to this degree program in the Department of Music requires an entrance audition and is contingent upon acceptance into the University. The curriculum includes a range of music courses plus 18 credit hours in a single outside field, such as business, communications, film studies, etc. The culminating experiences for this degree include a Senior Recital and a choice between a Senior Project or a Senior Internship. Students who wish to double major may also consider the B.A. in Music, with a Concentration in Applied Music. UNC Charlotte is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music.
