Program Overview

Turn your interest in math and data into skills that help solve real-world problems. The Mathematics, Statistics and Data Science concentration combines mathematics, statistics and computer science, including coursework in machine learning and data analysis.

You’ll learn how to analyze data, identify patterns and build predictive models while developing the problem-solving and critical-thinking skills employers value. Through a senior capstone, you’ll apply what you’ve learned to meaningful challenges and graduate ready for the workforce or advanced study.

Mathematics, Statistics Concentration, B.S. at a Glance

The Mathematics, Statistics and Data Science concentration combines a strong foundation in mathematics with advanced training in statistics, machine learning, optimization and data analysis. You'll build expertise in calculus, linear algebra, probability, statistical modeling and computational methods while developing technical skills in computer science and data science. Flexible elective options allow you to explore specialized interests and may support additional credentials such as a minor.

The Unifying Language of Mathematics

Mathematics is a language, a science, an art form, and a tool of tremendous power. Today every educated person needs at least a familiarity with the language of mathematics to understand the growth of technology in almost every aspect of our society. The Department of Mathematics and Statistics seeks to introduce students to this vast area of knowledge and assist its students to develop

  • Understanding of concepts, structure, and style of mathematics.
  • The ability to reason deductively and inductively; and
  • Facility with the applications of mathematics.
