Mathematics for Business, B.A.

Program Overview

The B.A. degree in Mathematics for Business is a practical applied mathematics program that tightens the focus on business applications to better prepare students for a successful career path in the areas of insurance, finance, banking, and economics. This program is designed to provide an education focused on the application of math to business while allowing the flexibility to complement the degree with a related minor or major.

Math for Business, B.A. at a Glance

A Mathematics for Business degree requires 120 credit hours. Majors in the B.A. study calculus, statistics, theory of interest, linear algebra, applied regression, introductory operations research, computer exploration and generation of data, business electives, plus upper-level elective courses based on career interests.

Mathematics is a language, a science, an art form, and a tool of tremendous power. Today every educated person needs at least a familiarity with the language of mathematics to understand the growth of technology in almost every aspect of our society. The Department of Mathematics and Statistics seeks to introduce students to this vast area of knowledge and assist its students to develop:

  • Understanding of concepts, structure, and style of mathematics;
  • The ability to reason deductively and inductively; and
  • Facility with the applications of mathematics.
