Global Studies, B.A.
Program Overview
The B.A. in Global Studies is designed to enable students to understand and analyze the global system in the context of a rapidly changing and increasingly interdependent world. It brings together perspectives from the social sciences and the humanities to study political, economic, cultural and geographic issues from around the world. The degree encourages students to concentrate on critical issues of a global nature – peace and conflict, development and sustainability, and genocide and human rights. Finally, students are required to participate in an international experience which can take the form of experiential learning (e.g., an internship abroad), an exchange program at a foreign university, or a study abroad experience. These experiences are intended to broaden students’ appreciation of the distinctiveness of other environments and cultures while augmenting their preparation for future study or participation in an increasingly globalized workforce. Within the major there are these concentrations: Development and Sustainability, Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights, Peace and Conflict, Global Culture and Identity.
