The Gerontology Program at UNC Charlotte prepares graduates for careers working with older adults. The program covers various aspects of gerontology, including biological, psychological, social, and cultural perspectives on aging. We are all aging every day and older adults are in every sector of society so gerontology studies are applicable to every career field. The Gerontology minor includes students and faculty from many disciplines across the University and the interdisciplinary nature of the program prepares students and professionals for their own aging experience as well as careers in a wide variety of settings.
Currently the program is sponsored jointly by the College of Humanities & Earth and Social Sciences and the College of Health and Human Services and administratively supported by the Office of Interdisciplinary Studies. We offer an undergraduate gerontology minor, a gerontology concentration in the Interdisciplinary Studies B.A., and a graduate Certificate in Gerontology that can be completed while an undergraduate through the Early Entry program.
