Environmental Engineering, B.S.Env.E.

Program Overview

Environmental engineering is essential to protect human health and the environment. Engineers in this discipline design and enact solutions to enhance the quality of natural resources like air, soil and water, supporting a healthier community.

UNC Charlotte’s B.S. in Environmental Engineering leads you to assess, analyze and solve real world and locally relevant challenges. By learning and applying skills related to drinking water supplies, wastewater treatment, hazardous waste solutions, air quality enhancement and more, you’re prepared to address the challenges of both rural and metropolitan areas.

The curriculum is offered at the center of the Charlotte region with its diverse environment that includes both urban, built spaces as well as areas that are transitioning from farmland to residential and industrial.

North Carolina has a growing demand for licensed environmental engineers in its largest metropolitan region, a hub in the Southeast for manufacturing and industrial activity. You will find employment in areas such as:

  • Prevention and mitigation of flooding, human health, and infrastructure impacts from stormwater.
  • Regulatory, compliance, and design functions related to environmental protection of air, water, and soil resources.
  • Organizations that optimize drinking water treatment and wastewater treatment
