English, Pedagogy Concentration, B.A.

Program Overview

The English Department offers degree-concentrations in a variety of specialized areas of study: literature, creative writing, digital technology, and pedagogy. All of these concentrations promote advanced literacy: critical reading and high-quality writing.  In the English, Pedagogy concentration you will develop the content and pedagogical knowledge you will need to teach high school English. In addition to your English content courses, you will also take courses on academic language, writing pedagogy, teaching multicultural literature, and instructional methods. To earn licensure to teach in North Carolina you will need to minor in Secondary Education, declaring this minor with the TEAL Office in the Cato College of Education. Some of the courses you will take for the minor also count toward the Pedagogy concentration.
