Construction Engineering, B.S.

Program Overview

Population and business growth, combined with aging infrastructure, is leading to an increased demand for those able to engineer the construction of new projects including, buildings, roadway expansions, bridges, mass transit and hydrological and below-ground structures.

The B.S. in Construction Engineering at UNC Charlotte is an interdisciplinary program designed to expose you to experts in civil engineering and construction management to create a more holistic picture of how things are built. You will learn concepts in structures, hydrology and geotechnical engineering, as well as project management, cost estimating, and scheduling. The Albert School of Construction’s Industry Advisory Board will also provide you with opportunities for real-world learning and networking exposure for your own construction internship, which is incorporated within the construction engineering degree. You will complete your degree with a senior capstone project, which is uniquely developed each semester with assistance from industry partners.

Upon graduation, you will have a robust skill set that allows you to enter a growing and reliable industry as a field engineer, project scheduler, project estimator, or various other entry-level engineering and management positions that are in high demand.

This program pulls from two different ABET accredited programs and will submit for accreditation between 2028 and 2029. This means that you will be able to sit for the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam upon graduation, and, after 4-years in industry, take the exam for your Professional Engineer license.
