Civil engineering professionals are essential to the ever-expanding use of land and resources, including both the natural and built environment. The Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering is designed to give you skills in structural, geotechnical, environmental, transportation engineering and more. You’ll learn how to apply physical and scientific principles for solving structural, geotechnical, transportation and environmental problems in society from a broad variety of faculty who have academic, research and industry experience.
In your final year, you’ll take the capstone, a project-based course where they solve real-world civil engineering problems in teams. Guided by experienced faculty and often partnering with industry or community clients, you’ll apply technical knowledge across civil engineering disciplines to design and present practical solutions, meanwhile developing professional and communication skills. For example, past projects included biomass energy production, plant design alternatives, greenway residential design and more.
After graduating from this program, you’ll be equipped to pursue careers in areas such as structural design, transportation systems, environmental engineering, geotechnical analysis, construction management, and water resources with industry leaders including Duke Energy, LandDesign, NC Department of Transportation and more.
As an ABET accredited program, this course of study provides students assurance that it meets the quality standards of the profession.
